Rayanne Williams
Rayanne Williams was adopted into a white American family at four months old. Throughout her childhood, Rayanne wasn't very interested in her Korean identity and just wanted to blend in. After a family trip to Disney World in the fourth grade provoked deep emotions about her adoption and identity, her mother immediately searched for a Korean community, bought her a hanbok, and learned to make Korean food for her.
Now in her mid-40s, Rayanne candidly shares her 27-year search for her birth family and figuring out how to come to terms with the possibility of never reuniting with them. Being in a community with other Koreans and Korean American adoptees and listening to their stories has allowed Rayanne to find peace and look forward to whatever the future will hold.
